Join us to learn about Letitia Carson, one of the first Black women to settle in Oregon, as you tour the beautiful Shelton McMurphey Johnson House in Eugene. Letitia became a landowner after traveling on the Oregon Trail, and her story is unique and interesting. Though we have no photographs of her, there are photos of her daughter and other family.
This is a traveling exhibit from Oregon Black Pioneers and will be up at the SMJ House from June through September, 2025. The exhibit is a partnership between SCEC and the SMJ House. We are committed to exploring, understanding and highlighting history from all sides, including underrepresented and marginalized groups.
FREE event, donations accepted.
Wednesday June 18th, 4pm – 5:30pm
