View our display at the Eugene Public Library in the Children’s Area for Fall 2024!
We have put up a display of PNW indigenous items, including photos of Grand Ronde Tribal members and children’s storybooks about indigenous culture for the community to enjoy. The display will be up for October and November, 2024.
Loaned items include handmade beaded regalia, a basket, flute and cermonial items. Deitrich Peters and K’iya Wilson both loaned items for the cases.
Many people came up and exclaimed over the new display while we were putting it up. Children and families were captivated and started asking questions immediately.
November is Native American Heritage Month and we wanted to do something special for all to see. The display includes items of traditonal living in the Willamette Valley for thousands of years, including flintknapping kit, the atlatl hunting tool, replica camas bulbs and more. Storybooks include books from the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde and others that are on their recommended reading list. (More at www.grandronde.org)
Also on display are a list of Kalapuya words and their English translation, from the Kalapuya Talking Stones at the Alton Baker Park in Eugene. Notes include information about Kalapuya culture and where to find more information.
Please visit our Acorn Circle FREE programs this fall at participating libraries and community centers to learn about PNW indigenous culture and do a craft to take home.
Please visit this exhibit while it is up. For any questions, contact our Executive Director, Karen Rainsong at director@singingcreekcenter.org.
