Kalapuya Cultural Presentation at Public Library in Drain

November 10, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

mildred whipple library in Drain OR

Join us for a free cultural presentation we will be giving at the Mildred Whipple library in Drain, OR.

On Friday November 10th at 1pm, Karen Rainsong and Deitrich Peters will be doing a joint presentation about Native American tribes and Kalapuya traditional technologies at the public library. Adults and children are welcome to attend.

Also included is a fun craft for the kids: color your own Native style paper mask, or a lifelike paper wolf mask, to take home.

Deitrich Peters is a Kalapuya elder who will bring some items of his regalia and his wooden flute to share about his culture and play a song or two.

Please join us and learn more about the Native people of Oregon.

Deitrich Peters Bio

I was born in Dallas, Oregon and I’m a member of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde. I am Kalapuya, Rouge River, and Umpqua. My given name is Cosa Tance, meaning “Sky Dancer”. My English name is Deitrich David Peters. I was given both my grandfather’s middle names. I grew up in Oregon and love to travel to as many cultural events as I can.
I love my culture and traditions – making things with my hands, working with feathers, beadwork, traditional dancing, storytelling and of course my all time favorite, flute playing. I have learned these many things from our elders, and have been gifted these things by the Creator.
