Indigenous People of Western Oregon Presentation

Deitz showing beaded moccasins to students

Our Indigenous presentation for your students imparts lasting impressions of respect and dignity. Our Indigenous instructors will talk about their culture and history and show items of cultural importance today, such as regalia, and also discuss some of the history of Western Oregon Tribes.

Our instructors have worked with us to incorporate the teachings that are important to them and are well-versed in thier tribal culture. We offer this as an opportunity for your students to connect with Indigenous culture in a close-up and personal way.

This presentation is for grades 4 and up.

Our Instructors

Lance Stone teaching outdoors with homeschoolers

Lance Stone, a Klamath Tribal Member, may bring items of his regalia and also shares about historic and contemporary issues of importance to Native peoples of Southern Oregon. Lance is an energetic young man and a grass dancer at traditional celebrations. He discusses traditional foods and lands of the Klamath people as well as historic injustices that have repercussions into modern times.

Deitz atlatl throwing with students outside

Deitrich Peters is a Grand Ronde Tribal Elder, and brings items of his regalia that he has made, as well as playing a few short songs on the wooden flute. He discusses camas, obsidian and historic injustices such as removal to reservations, and their ongoing consequences. Deitz has a warm and caring personality, and speaks softly, so a small group is best for his presentation.
