DESCRIPTION:Join us for a FREE cultural presentation with a well know Kalapuya weaver\, at the Springfield Public Library in November. She will talk about her culture and share examples of traditional basketry. This presentation is family-friendly but best suited for ages 6 and up. SCEC is excited to welcome this indigenous culture-bearer to share her stories and information with the public. \nThis is a part of the Acorn Circle program of Singing Creek Educational Center. DESCRIPTION:Cancelled due to lack of sign ups.\nLearn all about the Kalapuya Indigenous people of the Willamette Valley region and enjoy storytelling and music from a Native American tribal member. Explore Native art of the Columbia River area and make a craft to take home. We will learn about tools\, trade\, foods\, medicinal plants\, housing\, language and more. Then we will learn about some Native American leaders and what they have accomplished today. This is a brownies and juniors level class. Earn your Native American Heritage Month patch with us at Singing Creek Educational Center in Cottage Grove. \nThis will be our third year offering this program. SUMMARY:Travel in Time History Field Trip for Homeschoolers
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fun afternoon learning about Oregon history at the SMJ House in Eugene!\nThis hands-on history field trip is best for ages 5 -12. Come learn about the history of the house and pioneers\, the Kalapuya people who have lived here since time immemorial\, and the fur trappers that lived in the Willamette Valley. We will have three groups that rotate every 30 minutes and explore different parts of history inside the house. Each group will get to touch and explore items from history and participate in hands on learning. Taught by Singing Creek Educational Center staff (and SMJ House staff) this field trip is perfect for homeschoolers and will work for varying ages. Please have a parent or guardian with you children at all times. \nDate: Tuesday\, Nov 19th\, 2024; 9:30 am – 11:30am \nCost: $7 per child\, adults and ages 2 and under are free.Parking is next to the house and is free.Go to Pearl St. and Third St. in Eugene and follow the signs to the parking lot. \nNo refunds; tickets are transferable to another family if you cannot make it for some reason.
