The staff at ART will be leading a talk about horse care\, teaching you how to brush the horses and giving a riding lesson in the covered corral. DESCRIPTION:Learn about the famous pioneer girl\, Opal Whiteley\, as you explore nature! Opal was a nature lover who kept a childhood diary relating her adventures in the woods around Cottage Grove\, including her “explores” with her animal friends. We will make fairy houses\, create a journal and write and sketch in nature\, explore around the park and the river\, and discover pioneer life. \nEnjoy visits from special guests who teach us about eco-friendly living\, how to take care of the Earth and reduce our waste. Opal would appreciate our lessons on how to be kind to all beings and the Earth. \nWe’ll have lots of fun as we learn to appreciate Opal’s youthful relationship to the natural world. DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Native American Cultural Encampment in August at Cascacdia County Park in Sweethome\, Oregon\, presented by the Native American Cultural Encampments with Deitrich Peters and friends. Learn how to put up a tipi\, try making your own plant cordage\, make a leather pouch\, buy some Native made items\, buy a raffle ticket\, enjoy a free meal on Sunday afternoon\, and see some amazing pow-wow style dancing! Deitz will explain about elements of the regalia worn by the dancers and what they symbolize (cultural and personal significance). This is a great way to get to know Native people and culture in a relaxed\, informal and friendly way.Learn more here: https://naculturalencampment.org/ \nSCEC will have educational opportunities for children and families from 10 – 6 on Saturday and Sunday ( Aug 24th – 25th). Try the atlatl (spear throwing tool) in the field and do some free crafts like make your own animal mask.
