DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening discussion with a well-known Kalapuya basket weaver woman\, at the Creswell Public Library. We will be hearing from her and talking about the subject “Fear & Belonging” as part of the speaker series “Consider This.” Each year\, Oregon Humanities has a different topic for this series. We were lucky enough to receive a grant from Oregon Humanities with the library to offer this series in Creswell. \nOur conversation with the indigenous presenter will focus on traditions\, the loss of those traditions\, and reclaiming or continuing them. She is an expert on Kalapuya weaving and works to pass that information on. Her work and expertise fits very well into the theme of Fear and Belonging. What is more terrifying than watching cultural traditions move from the active world to a museum? And do cultural artifacts belong in museums\, and if so\, which museums do they belong to? DESCRIPTION:Join us for a wonderful talk by Mrs. Annabelle Smith of the Oregon Trail\, in 1856. Mrs. Smith has just arrived last Fall after a 6 month journey overland with her family on the wagon train\, and has stories (kid friendly) to tell about the trip. \nThis is a special event hosted by the Luper Cemetery and is free to the public. Bring your whole family! Mrs. Smith will have some letters to hand out\, written by children on the Oregon Trail\, detailing their thoughts\, feelings and experiences along the journey. Receive your own letter to take home! (The letters are ficional\, written by our Executive Director\, Karen\, based on journals and historical artifacts from the trail.) \nMemorial Day: Monday May 27th\, 12:30pm \nLocation: Luper Cemetery in Junction City\, OR \nDirections: Head North on River Road from Eugene. DESCRIPTION:This event is now Full.\nEnjoy a lovely sit down formal tea with your grandparent or grandfriend with Singing Creek Educational Center! \nThis pioneer-themed tea will be at the historic Shelton McMurphey Johnson house\, a Victorian mansion in Eugene. The event will feature two different flights of  tea and treats\, and live Celtic harp music. Each senior aged 60 and up will be invited to select a handmade gift from our gift table. Each attendee can take a paper heart and write the names of their beloved grandparents and “grandfriends” to string up around the room. In this way all our loved ones can be with us at the tea\, whether they are still with us or not. It’s a great way to include relatives that live out of town! Feel free to dress up in historic dress (a fancy hat?) as our servers will also be in historic dress. \nPre-registration required; seating is limited. \nOne hundred percent of the ticket price supports our non-profit and helps us continue our fun history-based programs for kids and families in Oregon. \nPrevious tea events have been located at the Camas Country Mill Schoolhouse in Junction City and the Dr. Snapp House in Cottage Grove.
