SUMMARY:Travel in Time Field Trips for teachers- Spring 2018
DESCRIPTION:Go back in time and experience local history on our beautiful family farm! Your 3rd – 5th grade school group will learn about life as a pioneer\, trapper\, and Kalapuya Indian with hands-on experience\, outdoor activities and more. The trip begins at our pioneer homestead\, a historic granary building\, then your class with break into three groups that will have different adventures with a costumed interpreter as a guide. The Kalapuya group will go to a beautiful camp under the trees to learn about foods\, housing\, tools\, language and more. Trappers will walk to a camp spot with a tent and cooking ring\, sit on tree stumps and learn about trade\, early tools\, lifestyle\, and animals then go for a walk to the pond to search for tracks. The pioneer group will start at the granary and learn about early schooling\, work the loom and go for a nature walk to the creek to record observations in their field journals. Each group will make a craft to take home. \nWe re-convene at the granary for a final wrap up and to get back on the bus. There is a pioneer one room schoolhouse on the property\, next to the farm store and commercial kitchen\, which you will probably see as you approach our driveway. It is not available for our field trips\, however\, the Camas Country Mill has field trips there for students during the school year. (You may contact them directly to book a trip there.) Thanks for your cooperation! \nPlease let us know if you have special needs in your group or severe allergies. \nPricing: $4.50 per child\, with a $50 minimum. Adult Chaperones are free.\nIf you have a small group we can do the field trip with one or two groups\, such as pioneer only\, or pioneer and Kalapuya group only.  Our maximum is 35 kids. \n12 children or less\, ONE GROUP\n13-21 children\, TWO GROUPS\n22-35 children\, THREE GROUPS \nField trips last for two hours and are usually scheduled from 9:30am to 11:30am. We do not have facilities for groups over 15 to stay and eat their lunches\, unless you can sit outdoors on the grass (good weather.) If your group is 15 or under and you would like to use the granary for lunch\, please let us know in advance.  There is an additional fee of $20 to stay for lunch. \nLiability release waivers will need to be collected for all persons attending the field trips\, including adult chaperones. You are encouraged to bring your own water bottles and snacks if necessary (depending on timing of your trip.) \nWe will send you a packet of information about preparing for your field trip as well as background information and what to expect. \nContact our Director\, Karen Rainsong\, for more information.

We’ll dress as pioneers and learn about how valuable horses were to pioneers and early settlers\, then saddle up for a wonderful riding lesson! Trained and patient instructors will help you learn about holding the reins\, giving commands to your horse\, and horsemanship. The horse riding area is a covered arena. Then we create some horse themed art and take home some fun horse fact sheets. We will make our own little horses out of colored salt dough and play Pin-the-Tail-on-the-Horse. Get your picture taken with your pioneer horse for the day\, and show us your pioneer spirit! (Professional photos may be purchased for a small additional fee.)\n \nThe mission of Animal Rescue Teaching for Any Level of Learner is to rescue and rehabilitate animals using them for education of people young and old. They are a non profit and Karen (our director) has experience there taking lessons with her family. This class is open to all ages but is best for kids 8 years old and up. \nOur instructor\, Kathy Lamberg\, will show a slideshow all about our local birds\, and we will discuss what they might be doing this time of year. (I’ll give you a hint…think eggs.)\nWe will hear some recorded bird calls to help us better identify the calls on the farm. Then we will go on a walk around the beautiful farm and down to the creek and pond where we typically have many water birds and song birds. Often we see raptors as well! \nWe will have some binoculars on loan for you to use\, or you can bring your own! \nThen we will go back to the granary and make a wooden birdhouse to take home. More than 2\,000 people attended last year. SUMMARY:Halloween at the Homestead
DESCRIPTION:[cmsms_row][cmsms_column data_width=”1/1″][cmsms_text] \n \nCome celebrate Halloween this year at Singing Creek Educational Center on Friday October 28th at 3:30pm!\nEVENT SOLD OUT- Join us at this event again next year!\n\nSpecially designed for children ages 5-12 years\, this event features vintage crafts\, games with prizes\, and a special shadow puppet play!  We will have baked goodies and hot drinks on hand for purchase. All proceeds benefit the SCEC. The cost is $10 per child\, and adults are free. Pre-registration is required. Cash payment will be expected upon arrival.\nWhat are vintage crafts? We’re glad you asked. In keeping with our pioneer historical theme\, these crafts are made with natural supplies and there is minimal plastic or “modern” ingredients used. We make witches brooms with raffia\, paper lanterns painted by your child\, lavender ghosts with white fabric\, play the “apple snap” game and more. \nPlease\, no scary costumes or pets.
