SUMMARY:Opal Whiteley History Tour with Steve Williamson
DESCRIPTION:The Life and Times of Opal Whiteley- Guided Tour\nJoin us at noon on Saturday\, June 19th for a guided caravan tour of Opal Whiteley’s life and places– with Steve Williamson\, a local expert on Opal Whiteley. Steve has done lots of research on her and our local history. See the Opal memorial website here to learn more about this famous pioneer girl. \nJoin our Opal Caravan for a fun drive and walking tour of places where Opal Whiteley lived and wrote about. We will start in historic downtown Cottage Grove and travel to Walden\, where she wrote her famous diary. You will also get to see sites where famous movies like Animal House\, The General and Stand By Me were filmed. Find great places to hike or bike along the beautiful Row River Trail. The Caravan will last at least an hour. \nMeet at the Snapp House at 360 S. River Rd\, Cottage Grove\, OR 97424. Park in the main lot and pay your fee\, and receive your map\, then follow Steve! \nCost: $10 per adult\, children 15 and under are free. \nPlease bring cash or a check made out to Singing Creek Educational Center. SUMMARY:Homeschool Family Day
DESCRIPTION:THIS EVENT IS ONLY FOR our homeschool families that were a part of our online program. \nJoin us for a fun morning at the Snapp House doing old-fashioned crafts and games\, and find out more about our summer camps and fall events! This is a great time to connect outside in nature\, since we are located in a park next to the river. Bring a picnic lunch and a water bottle (there is no drinking fountain at the Snapp house.) \nAlso this is a great time to talk to our Executive Director about volunteering with us or joining the Board of Directors. Preview summer camps with fun games and crafts. Please wear  a mask if you are not fully vacinated. Children are not required to wear a mask at this time. We do have hand sanitizer and a bathroom. \nTime: 10:00am to noonAddress: 360 S. River Road\, Cottage Grove\, OR.You may park in the big parking lot directly in front of the house. \nPlease RSVP if you were a member of the online homeschool this past year (Sept 2020 to May 2021). Email Karen\, our E.D. to RSVP if you will be attending. \nALSO join us at noon for a guided caravan tour of Opal Whiteley’s life and places– with Steve Williamson\, a local expert on Opal Whiteley. Steve has done lots of research on her and our local history. Take your own car and stop at points of interest\, get out\, and hear him talk about the land\, the town’s history\, Opal’s life and more. The cost for this event for everyone else is $10 a person but for your family (our homeschoolers) it’s FREE.
