DESCRIPTION:Homestead Arts: Sew a Bag!\nAdults and kids 8 years old and up. Cost: $15 – all supplies included.Location: Dr. Snapp House (Singing Creek Educational Center)360 S. River Road\, Cottage Grove\, OR \nLet’s learn to hand-sew! We provide all the fabrics\, thread\, needles and the instruction. Make a cute small shoulder bag\, with a basic fabric strap\, a pocket and a button closure. Kids under 12 must come with an adult. Our instructor has been teaching this bag making class at SCEC summer camp for many years. Feel free to bring a dinner snack to this class. \nPre-registration is required. She is a graphic designer\, photographer\, and passionate about history in general and Oregon history in particular. She is also a mother and an active part of the community. She is the Executive Director of SCEC\, which she founded in 2007. \nShe has always loved nature and natural interpretation. Throughout her years living in Eugene she has taught children in both traditional school settings and non-formal outdoor settings. Some of her favorite jobs included teaching natural history and local history at Homesource home-schooling center\, teaching many different types of art and natural history courses for Lane Arts Council\, and teaching as an Audobon In the Schools instructor and at Whole Earth Nature School. We are lucky to have her! \nHer style is relaxed and fun\, with a focus on empowering you to do your best.

DESCRIPTION:Homestead Arts: Soap Making Class\nAdults and teens 13 years old and up. Cost: $26 – all supplies included. Location: Dr. Snapp House (Singing Creek Educational Center) 360 S. River Road\, Cottage Grove\, OR  \nLearn the basics of making bar soap from scratch. We will discuss the chemistry of saponification\, properties of different base oils and local sources\, and fragrance oils and other additives while we make a batch of soap. You will also learn how to make liquid soap and two forms of laundry soap. Take home a share of the soap we produce. \nPre-registration is required. With an extensive background in the sciences and math and more than 10 years tutoring and teaching experience from grade school to college level\, he tutors science\, math\, and German at the elementary through college level and also works as a medical interpreter in German and French. His own children have been entirely home schooled. He has been teaching them science and math along with children from other home-schooled families\, and was potions master for Homeschool Hogwarts for four years\, teaching chemistry as Professor Abraxas.
